You can kind of tell what it will look like. I thought the pickguard would be more reddish, but the brown works too, so I think I will keep it that way.

are you satisfied with the clear coat on that? it looks thin from the way light is bouncing of the edges, but i might be wrong...

Yes. I have no problems with anything except finishing.

I can usually finish a guitar at the level of a monkey or elephant that was trained to hold a paintbrush, but really these kinds of guitars are sort of a "theme" sort of thing anyway, where I don't mind a rough appearance so much, and don't necessarily have to have (and usually don't have) everything perfect (although a good setup is nice).

If at all possible, get the angled brass saddles... StewMac makes a set of them cheap:
